Inmate sentenced on vandalism charge

An additional sentence was levied against a Susquehanna County Correctional Facility inmate after his attempt to light a cigarette using an electrical outlet in the jail caused an arc that burnt out the socket.

Dylan Brewer, 20, of New Milford, was sentenced Thursday by President Judge Kenneth Seamans to serve four to 18 months for institutional vandalism in connection with a July 20 incident at the jail in Bridgewater Twp.

According to court documents, Andrew Lesser and Keith Smith held a blanket in an effort to conceal Brewer’s actions. Lesser was sentenced to 45 days to 11 months for conspiracy – institutional vandalism in September. Smith pleaded guilty to criminal mischief in August in front of Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Hollister and was assessed a penalty by the Court of Common Pleas in September.

The latest sentence for Brewer will run concurrent with a nine to 18 month sentence handed down in May that Brewer was already serving for conspiracy – robbery.

Brewer was one of the four people sentenced in connection with a home invasion robbery in New Milford Twp. in January.

The following people were also sentenced Thursday by President Judge Kenneth Seamans in the Susquehanna County Court of Common Please:

Eric Justin Darde, 28, of Tunkhannock, to 90 days to 15 months in Susquehanna County Correctional Facility, pay $1,500 fine, Influence in Montrose Borough on Sept. 20, 2013.

Robert Mark Burnett, 35, of Montrose, to pay a $200 fine, for Receiving Stolen Property in New Milford Borough on July 8, 2012.

Gilberto Serna, 47, of Ray, Colo. to 4 to 12 months incarceration, for Harassment in Bridgewater Twp. on Jan. 29, 2013. Serna also received 12 to 24 months in a state correctional facility to run concurrent to the above sentence, pay restitution to the victim, for Simple Assault in Bridgewater Twp. on Jan. 29, 2013. Finally, Serna received 24 months probation to run consecutive to the above sentences, for Indecent Exposure in Bridgewater Twp. on Jan. 29, 2013.

Ryan James Cokely, 28, of Montrose, to 30 days to 12 months in Susquehanna County Correctional Facility, pay restitution to the victim, for Theft by Deception in Choconut Twp. on March 23, 2013. Cokely also received 45 days to 12 months in Susquehanna County Correctional Facility, pay restitution to the victim in this case for Theft by Deception in Great Bend Twp. on Jan. 26. Cokely also received 45 days to 15 months in Susquehanna County Correctional Facility to run concurrent to the above sentences, for Theft by Deception in Montrose Borough on Dec. 3, 2013. Finally, Cokely received 45 days to 15 months in Susquehanna County Correctional Facility to run concurrent to the above sentences, pay restitution to the victim, for Theft by Deception in Rush Twp. on Nov. 12, 2013.
