Gilhool’s 31 leads Meteors to win

Montrose’s Meghan Gilhool outscored all the other players on the court with a whopping 31 points as the Lady Meteors beat Susquehanna 55-28 in a Division IV game.

The first quarter was fairly even with Nicole Barnes sinking a 3-pointer for Susquehanna and her teammates, Gabrielle Cina and DJ Decker each scoring two points each.

Gilhool matched the 3-pointer and raised it by two points for a total of five and gave Montrose a slight three point lead at the end of the quarter with some help from Angela Russell and Morgan Groover with a bucket each and Fallon Gurn scoring a point from the foul line.

Under the basket Groover had three rebounds and a block, and Gilhool had one rebound and two steals. The quarter ended with Montrose up 10-7.

The second quarter was all about Gilhool. She did not miss a single shot in the quarter. She made seven baskets and two foul shots.

Gurn, Groover, and Russell added a bucket each to the scoreboard for Montrose.

The Lady Sabers improved their scoring in the second quarter as well by scoring nine points. Mikaela Hargett scored a 3-pointer, Barnes scored four points, and Cina made a foul shot to give Susquehanna nine points.

At the half, Montrose had pulled ahead, 32-16.

The Lady Sabers had trouble connecting on their shots; only Decker scored by sinking a 3-pointer.

Groover kept her dominance under the basket with three rebounds and two blocked shots. Gilhool added seven more points before leaving the game with most of the other starters for Montrose. She also had two steals and two rebounds. Hannah Dieck scored for Montrose and Katie Warner had one steal and one rebound.

Under the basket at the other end of the court, Haley Aldrich had a block and Hargett had two steals.

In the final eight minutes of the game, Susquehanna increased their score by 11 points, four of which were made by Decker. Hargett added three more and Cina another two. The Lady Meteors increased their lead with Gilhool and Groover each scoring three; Russell, Ashley Birchard, and Warner each adding two points for a total of 12.

The high scorer for the Lady Sabers was Decker with nine, followed by Barnes with eight.

Gilhool’s 31 points were the high for Montrose with Groover following with nine points and eight rebounds.
