Elk Lake’s Chris Warfle started wrestling in high school for the exercise benefits. “I started wrestling initially to get more fit and active, but then I really started to like it,” he said.
But the sport became more than exercise for the Warrior senior who wrestles at 220. Warfle said, “I like the fact that it is such a physical sport, and that it really keeps you in shape.”
Warfle is the Independent’s Athlete of the Week.
Warfle says he has had an “okay season” with four wins and seven losses but is looking to improve as the season continues. He was honored on Tuesday, Jan. 20 as Elk Lake’s wrestling team had their Senior Night.
In addition to wrestling, Warfle is also a member of the school’s track and team. Outside of school, he participates in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
He attends the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center and has a job working construction when he is not in school or participating in athletics.
Warfle has earned honors in his Career Center class and has won medals in both wrestling and track.
After graduation, he plans to enter the military but has not decided which branch he would like to join. He also plans to attend college while in the military.
Warfle lives in Springville Twp. with his mother, Rebecca Blaisure.
