Carney considers senate bid

STAFF REPORT

Former U.S. Rep. Chris Carney said Tuesday he is considering a run for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in 2016.

“I’ve been approached to consider it,” Carney said as he awaited the Thursday inauguration of Tom Wolf as governor. Carney serves on Wolf’s transition team for military and veterans issues. Republican Sen. Pat Toomey faces re-election next year.

Carney, a Dimock Twp. resident, defeated Republican Rep. Don Sherwood of Tunkhannock Twp. in 2006 to win the 10th Congressional District seat. He served two terms before losing in 2010 to Republican Tom Marino of Lycoming Twp.
