Montrose and Forest City girls faced off for the first time this season Friday in a battle of the Division IV unbeatens. The Lady Meteors took the win, securing the title for the first half of the season.
The game started out slowly, with neither team having much scoring luck in the first half of the low-scoring, 38-30, game.
Only nine points were scored between the two teams in the first quarter. Montrose outscored Forest City six to three. All three

of the Lady Foresters’ points came from the foul line; two by Kendra Bendyk and one by Emily Lewis.
Morgan Groover and Angela Russell both scored a basket for the Lady Meteors and Fallon Gurn and Meghan Gilhool each added one foul shot.
Scoring did not pick up in the second quarter. The Lady Meteors added four more points with baskets made by Gilhool and Gurn, who also had four rebounds.
Forest City put up five more points with Katelyn Zembrycki and Bendyk each making a shot and McKenzie Hartman adding a foul shot to end the half with a score of 10-8 in favor of Montrose.
The Lady Meteors emerged from the halftime break with vigor.
Gilhool had four points and six rebounds. Hannah Dieck also had four points, Russell had three and Katie Warner and Gurn each had two. Montrose outscored Forest City, 15-6 in the third.
Bendyk made a three-pointer and a foul shot; and Hartman sank two foul shots.
In the final quarter, the Lady Foresters put up 16 points and outscored the Lady Meteors by three. Madison McGraw had two foul shots and two 3-pointers. Zembrycki also had two foul shots and put in two baskets. Hartman made another two points for her team.
The Lady Meteors made most of their 13 points in the fourth quarter from the foul line. Warner, Dieck, and Russell all made one foul shot. Gilhool went five of six from the line. Field goals were made by Groover, Gurn, and Gilhool.
When it was all over the girls from Montrose took the win and claimed the first half title, remaining undefeated in Division IV by beating Forest City 38-30.
The high scorers for Forest City were McGraw, Zembrycki, and Bendyk with eight points each.
Gilhool led the Lady Meteors with 13 points and ten rebounds, followed by Gurn with seven points and six rebounds.
