Mt. View to add cafeteria worker

Mountain View school directors approved several staff position changes at their meeting Monday night, Jan. 26, including advertising for an additional food service position.

The board approved the creation of a cafeteria worker at 6.5 hours a day, mostly to provide an a la carte offering at the high school. The directors said the intention is to give students extra items to choose from for lunch, as well as provide an cafeteria employee to fill in when another is absent.

The board also accepted the resignation of Will Hagenbuch as elementary play director, and appointed Kathy McHenry to the position. Jerry Romeika and Esther Romeika of Susquehanna were accepted as track and field volunteers.

Acting superintendent Karen Voigt reported that a driver for the district’s snow plow contractor recently hit a light pole in the elementary parking lot, bringing the pole down. District maintenance director Robert Taylor is researching options to replace the pole and light.

Voigt also informed the board that the annual NEPA High School Challenge, an academic competition involving student teams from several area schools, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the public is welcome to attend.

“This is always such a worthwhile event,” Voigt stated. “It gives our students an opportunity to meet their peers from other schools, as well as showcasing our district.”
