Montrose finalizes school calendar

Students in the Montrose Area School District will be staying in class until Friday, June 12. Graduation will be held Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m. in the high school stadium if weather permits.

The school board revised the school calendar at its Monday, April 13 meeting.

Regular full days of school will be held June 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, and 11; students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. on June 12.

The board also accepted with regret the resignations of five district employees for the purpose of retirement: Edward Falkowski, school psychologist; Jean Hollister, Junior-Senior High School nurse; Cathleen Regan, Junior-Senior High School art teacher; and Dorothy Martin, learning support teacher at Lathrop Street Elementary; and Valerie Aldrich, special education secretary to the Director of Special Education.

A contract with NEIU #19 for special education programs and services was approved for 2015-16 at an estimated cost not to exceed about $148,165.

The board also accepted the following coaching resignations: Brenda Allen, junior high assistant girls’ basketball coach; Vatalija Vaiciuliene, junior high head girls’ basketball coach; and Bridgette McKennis, assistant girls’ basketball coach.

Samantha Vetri was appointed football cheerleading adviser beginning with the 2015 season; Nichole Welmon appointed assistant girls basketball coach; and Anne Lathrop, junior high girls’ basketball head coach.

The school board will meet Monday, May 11 at 7 p.m. for a work session followed by a board meeting in the Junior-Senior High School Community Learning Center.
