Elk Lake baseball player Alex Bonavita is the Independent’s Student Athlete of the Week.
Bonavita joined the baseball team two years ago because it was something he always wanted to try and “my family has always been involved in baseball.” He enjoys being part of the team. “I love the team and the activities we do together. It’s like another family.”
Despite the Warriors not having the best of seasons, Bonavita is optimistic. “The team looks good. Last year we did really well. It took us a while to get going, but we got there and started doing well.”
Bonavita said the team enjoys their time together and has a lot of fun at the practices. There is a lot of joking around and good laughs together, which keeps the team upbeat and makes baseball fun whether the team is winning or losing.
The Warriors have had some close games and have picked up wins over Mountain View and Susquehanna and hope to get a few more before the season ends in a couple of weeks.
Bonavita is very involved in extracurricular activities. He participates in skiing and bowling. He is on the Student Council, Prom Steering Committee, 4H, and FBLA.
“I have received awards in FBLA I have made it to States twice; and I’m president of my 4H club,” he said.
He plans on going to college to become a veterinarian, but hasn’t decided which school he will attend yet. He lives and works on his family’s dairy farm in Auburn Township with his parents, Stanley and Jennifer Bonavita.
