Montrose Borough Council member Todd Chamberlain said he has had trouble getting the restoration work done on his yard after natural gas service was put in.
“I can’t be the only one,” Chamberlain said, noting he has given the contractor three chances to fix the issues.
Councilman Sean Granahan noted problems in the area of Park and Maple, such as curbing that had not been replaced.
“I think this is just the tip of the iceberg,” Chamberlain said.
At the second scheduled meeting of the month, slated for Monday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m., council is asking to hear from residents who have had similar concerns.
“I think people would come forward,” Chamberlain said.
Borough solicitor Marion O’Malley will draft a letter to Leatherstocking Gas Company about the concerns. Representatives from the company will also be invited to attend the June 16 meeting.
Granahan said he believed many people had grown weary of construction and fixed their yards on their own.
In addition to gas line installation issues, council also discussed matters dealing with the ongoing Rt. 706 project.
Councilman Craig Reimel said it appears a pipe has been cut off near and not tied in to another pipe. He said a Church Street business was now experiencing flooding in their basement during rain events.
Reimel said he was told by Leeward Construction – the contractor handling the project for PennDOT – that the flooding would stop when the area is paved.
The borough street department was given council’s blessing to look into the problem.
Council awarded a $63,530 bid to Suit-Kote, of Hallstead, for microsurfacing work on sections of about 16 streets in the borough.
The first Music in the Park event is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 7-9 p.m. The event will feature the “Lonnie Griffith’s Band.” Food will be available.
The annual July 4th parade and activities were approved.
A payment of $3,600 was approved for the South Main Street Sidewalk Project.
