A new initiative is underway in an effort to address suicides in Susquehanna County.
Commissioner MaryAnn Warren said the goal of the Suicide Awareness Initiative (SAI) is to not only attempt to figure out what is happening in the county, but also provide suicide awareness and prevention resources and education to area residents.
The county commissioners appointed 15 people to serve on a task force at the Oct. 28 meeting. Appointees will serve until March 31, 2016.
The board is comprised of representatives of various sectors of the community, from health care, law enforcement and clergy to advocacy and behavioral health.
Appointed members and their areas of expertise include:
Law enforcement: Sheriff Lance Benedict, District Attorney (elect) Rovert Klein; Health care: EMHS director Rex Catlin; Clergy: Charles Casaretti; Advocacy: Victoria Couglas Cleeton; Drug & Alcohol: Bo Hoban; Coroner: Anthony Conarton; Behavioral health: Tina Wyeen, Sal Santoli, Marie Onuliavage; Human Services: Michelle Graziano; Emergency response: Kimberly Tuttle; Business: April Kirkpatrick; Community: Dan O’Rourke; Philanthropy: The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains.
