Montrose’s Jacob O’Brien brought home a sixth place medal Saturday in the North East Regional qualifier held March 4-5 in Williamsport. O’Brien, a junior, wrestled at 120. He was pinned by Cole Hauck of Line Mountain in the fifth place bout.
With three wrestlers that qualified for the regional tournament, Montrose tied for 33rd place with Sayre.
Blue Ridge and Elk Lake with one wrestler each competing in the tourney, tied for 35th place.
In the championship quarterfinals, Montrose’s Joseph Hester (106) fell to Wyatt Lutz of Montoursville; and Chuck Rohan (113) was pinned by Shane Casey of Southern Columbia.
Hester and Rohan were both pinned by opponents in the opening consolation round.
O’Brien lost in the quarterfinals to Angelo Barberio of Muncy, but went on to take a decision over Hanover Area’s Jeffrey Bennett in the first consolation round. He was pinned by his Benton opponent in the consolation semis; and again in the fifth place bout.
Blue Ridge’s Michael Kelly (145) was pinned by his Montoursville opponent in the championship quarterfinal; and lost in a decision in the first consolation round to a Sayre wrestler.
Elk Lake’s Jake Hand (160) lost in a major decision in the quarterfinals to Breycin Fulmer of Towanda; and then was pinned in the opening consolation round.
