If you think the local farmers’ market Montrose Market is too hard to find, you will be happy to hear that on Thursday, June 30, the market is moving to the Green.
The Montrose Market is open Thursdays, 3-7 p.m.
Organizers found the parking lot behind the Tannery Building is too hot for the fresh vegetables and plants; and the car traffic could possibly be dangerous to market-goers, especially children.
The move is likely to be good for vendors and shoppers alike.
There is a lot more at the farmers’ market than vegetables and plants, although there are lots of both to select from. The organic
vegetables from 4 Seasons Farm Market, picked fresh and offered at affordable prices, are worth the visit all by themselves. The flowers from Scholz’s Orchard in Mehoopany are lush and healthy, and the vendor is happy to advise you on what plants are best for your garden. There’s more, much more at the weekly market – offerings from Carlton Farms, Ellsworth Landscaping, and George’s Aeroponics and Farm. And who can resist lavender from Humming Hill Lavender Farm & Apiary?
Maybe you are looking for a unique handcrafted gift. You can choose from gem stone jewelry by Michelle, Terrariums by Gail, whimsical signs, soaps, medicinal elixirs like Carlton Farms Fire Tonic, or any number of unusual local items. You can shop while Endless Mountain Learning Center entertains your children with a new activity every week. Last week they had homemade sidewalk paint.
After shopping at the market you might want to extend your stay in town. The Montrose Movie Theatre runs shows at 7 p.m.; and Outback@Joycie’s offers Thursday Night Live with music and BBQ at 5:30 p.m. Take a short drive down South Main Street to relax on benches or under the pavilion while the children play at Memorial Park, offering climbing gyms and swings, a basketball court, walking trail, and skateboard ramps, plus the convenience of bathrooms, electric, and water.
