Hot scores at the annual EMHS golf tourney

The 17th annual Endless Mountains Health System golf tournament was held on Monday, Aug., 29, at the Montrose Country Club.

This tournament event is held every year as a fundraiser and is the third tournament since the new hospital opened in December 2013. The tournament has raised over $150,000 dollars throughout its 16-year history.  This money was used for the purchase of new equipment for the hospital both in its old location on Grow Avenue and its new facility.

Winners of the first tournament held in 1999  were Sam Lewis, Dr. Thomas Pascoe, Dr.  Joseph Speicher and Dr. Stuart Kaufman.

Twenty two teams competed in this year’s tournament in two divisions; (1) all men/three men and one woman and (2) all women/two men and two women.  Competition among teams is highlighted in this captain and crew event.

In the first flight, the team of Rex Maxey, Joel Maxey, Barry Wheaton and Jerry Klim scored a 58 for a first place win.  Second place with a score of 63, on a match of cards, went to the team of Dr. Ihab Dana, Dr. David Flannery, Curtis Haley and Chris Goryeb.  Third place winners with a 63 went to Craig Reimel, Al Reimel, Tom Keenan and Rich Rosenkrans.

Scoring first in the second flight were Larry Kelly, Lew Plauny, Pat Ely and Corey Goff scoring a 66. Winning second place with a score of 67 was the team of Dr. Joseph Speicher, Dr. Will Speicher, Dr. Stuart Kaufman and Dr. Tom Pascoe. Third place with a score of 68 went to Bill Lewis, DJ Spellman, Stanley Griffis and Al Bertsch.

In the womens/mixed division, the team of Brian McCormack, Kathy Wheaton, Edgar Warriner and Lisa Warriner scored a 62 for first place.  Mary Ann DeWitt, Ed Shinn, Laura Kail and Karl Kail finished second, on a match of cards with a gross score of 67.  Third place in this division went to Shawn Garrick, Mario Costa, Laura Merion and Donna Doherty with a 67.

After a buffet was served to the players by Joyce Siracuse, Dr. Joseph Speicher welcomed the golfers and remarked about the process by which the new hospital had become a reality.  He thanked the corporate sponsors, course sponsors, employees, various funding organizations, patrons and the community at large for the on-going participation in the fruition realized by the many events.

Awards and certificates were given to the many winners and everyone is looking forward to the 18th annual tournament in 2017.
