Strong start for Lady Raiders

Blue Ridge came out strong on the volleyball court in its season opener against rival Montrose. The Lady Raiders swept the match, 3-0.

At the end of the first week of play-action, last year’s Class A champions remain undefeated scoring wins over Western Wayne and Mountain View.

Hayliegh Fekette led Blue Ridge with eight kills, eight assists, five aces, five digs and 12 points. Kalynne Myers added 10 assists and Kandace Smith had seven aces and 16 points.

The Lady Foresters picked up a 3-2 win over Western Wayne on the court Wednesday.

The game lasted five matches, with the Lady Wildcats taking the first round. Forest City answered with a 2nd match win; fell short in the third then took the fourth and fifth for the win.

From the service line, Amelia Zazzera had five aces and added six kills. Summer Wade had six kills and nine blocks. Katelyn Dovin had 34 assists.

Mountain View opened with a 3-1 win over the Lady Sabers.

Susquehanna took the first match, but the Lady Eagles came back to claim next three.

Kaitlyn Williams scored 14 points, and had seven assists. Audrey Cameron scored five aces and totaled 19 points for Mountain View. Lauren Schmidt added 11 kills and five points.

For Susquehanna, Emily Frye scored 13 points and had six kills; while Bethany Maby earned five kills, five aces and scored 13 points. Brittany Burlingame added six kills, six points and 10 assists.

Elk Lake fell to Abington Heights, 3-0, in the Lady Warriors home opener.

Jamie Cohn and Keryne Brostoski each had four kills for Elk Lake. Abby Johns had three aces.

In Friday games:

Hayleigh Fekette had 11 assists and five kills, Megan Houlihan had eight kills, Kalynne Myers had seven aces and eight assists, and Kandace Smith had 12 digs as Blue Ridge swept Western Wayne in a Lackawanna League girls volleyball match Friday.

At Mountain View, Summer Wade five kills, six blocks and Kary Gillette six aces for Forest City, which defeated Mountain View, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20.

Caitlyn Williams had 13 assists and Lauren Schmidt had nine kills and six blocks for Mountain View.

Brittney Burlingame had six kills, eight assists and 15 points to lead Susquehanna to a 3-1 win over Lackawanna Trail in a Lackawanna League girls volleyball match on Saturday.

Chloe Tinklepaugh had five kills and eight points for the Lady Sabers and Bethany Maby had five kills, five digs and 10 points.

On Monday, Sept. 12, Hayleigh Fekette had five aces and 11 assists to lead Blue Ridge to a 3-1 win over Mountain View in a Lackawanna League girls volleyball match.

Emma Gleason, Abby Hartman and Megan Houlihan each had five kills for the Lady Raiders.

Kaitlyn Williams had six aces for Mountain View, Audrey Cameron had five kills and Lauren Schmidt had five kills, five digs and nine points.

Emily Stankiewicz had six assists for Montrose, Elizabeth Kelly had five digs and Kayla Eschbaugh had four assists as the Lady Meteors fell to Dunmore, 3-0.

At Forest City, Caitlyn Bonham had 27 points, 12 aces and 28 assists to lead the Lady Foresters, 3-1 over Susquehanna.

Amelia Zazzera had 23 points and eight kills for Forest City and Summer Wade had eight kills.

Gabrielle Glover had 10 points, seven kills and five blocks for Susquehanna, and Brittany Burlingame had six points, five kills and nine assists.

Abby Johns had nine points for Elk Lake, Kelsey Day had eight points and Jamie Cohn had five points in a 3-0 loss to Western Wayne.
