Montrose girls shut out MV in opening round

Montrose breezed to a playoff opening round win, 13-0, over Mid Valley on Monday.
Maddie Gilhool had five goals and three assists to lead the fourth-seeded Lady Meteors to a win the first round of the District 2 Class 2A playoffs.
Annalise Ely had a hat trick for Montrose and Brianna Spence had a goal and three assists.
Krysten Morgan, Adriana Scarfalloto, Alexis Warren and Harper Andre also put points on the board for the Lady Meteors.
Montrose will play the winner of Tuesday’s Berwick-GAR match in the second round Thursday.
Mountain View and Montrose both logged losses last week as the regular girls’ soccer season drew to a close.
The Lady Eagles fell to Lakeland who clinched the Division II championship with the 2-0 shut-out win.
With under two minutes remaining, Western Wayne scored the game’s only goal to give the Wildcats the surprise winning edge over Montrose.
Montrose outshot the winners, 31-7.
Elk Lake collected a 4-1 win over the Lady Foresters.
Cheynne Jenner, Lydia Hunsinger and Grasyn Busnhell had first-half goals to give Elk Lake a Division IV win.
Elk Lake goalie Lucy Ives had 15 saves; and Forest City goal Becky Moyer had 12.
Playoffs
Playoffs got underway Monday, with #4 seed Montrose hosting #13 Mid Valley at home in Class AA.
Mountain View and Forest City met in Class A first round play on Tuesday at Mountain View.
Elk Lake, No. 2 seed, and No. 1 Lakeland earned buys in the first round of playoffs and will start tournament play on Thursday.
Elk Lake will face the winner of the Mountain View-Forest City game at home on Oct. 27.
