Two Gracious Living Estates residents celebrated milestone birthdays last week.

Jennie Comstock turned 102 years old on Thursday, Jan. 12, and Retha Stone celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday, Jan. 13.

Retha was presented with a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives by Susquehanna County Republican vice-chairman Dave Darrow on behalf of Rep. Tina Pickett.

Comstock was presented a citation from the state two years ago on her 100th birthday. She said her secret to a long life is healthy eating. She advised eating lots of fruits and vegetables and not much meat.

Stone taught in one room schoolhouses from 1937-1952 at Salt Springs, the Baker School, near Booth’s Bridge, and Lawsville. She also taught at Lathrop Street Elementary was built in 1952 when she began teaching there. She mostly taught third grade until her retirement in 1975.
