Police ID body found in Bridgewater

Pennsylvania State Police, Gibson, are investigating the death of a Binghamton, N.Y., man whose remains were found last week in Bridgewater Twp.
The body of Jamie Nieves, 37, was discovered on Tuesday, May 9, at about 11 a.m., in a wooded area, located just off the Meshoppen Creek Road.
Nieves was reported missing to New York State Police on Dec. 3, 2016. He was identified by police as the deceased on Friday, May 12.
An autopsy of the remains was conducted on Wednesday, May 10. The cause of death is undetermined; and police said additional forensic testing, including DNA analysis and toxicology would be conducted to determine the cause of the death. The autopsy noted the remains were of a male, age 30-40, about 6-feet tall, with a medium to large build, and body tattoos.
On Wednesday morning, a search of the area where Nieves’ body was discovered was conducted by law enforcement personnel, Northeast Search and Rescue, and cadaver dogs. The search produced no additional evidence, according to police.
The discovery of Nieves’ body marked the second time this year human remains have been found in Susquehanna County.
On Jan. 12, remains were discovered in a wooded area off McGraw Hill Rd., in Choconut Twp., near the Pennsylvania – New York state line.
Those remains have not yet been identified, and information on the case has been posted into a nationwide database of missing persons.
The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop R Major Case Team is continuing its investigation into the Nieves’ case to determine the cause and manor of death.
