MASD hires curriculum director

In a special school board meeting, held Wednesday, Aug. 23, the Montrose Area School Board hired a Director of Curriculum.
Christine Rosenkrans as selected to fill the slot of the recently created administrative position in the district.
Rosenkrans is currently the Director of Curriculum in the Wyoming Area School District, according to Superintendent Carol Boyce, and has taught at both the elementary and secondary levels.
Boyce said Rosenkrans has a broad experience in curriculum development.
At the Aug. 14 meeting, the school board earmarked over $800,000 to be used in curriculum over the next several years.
That move was questioned at the Aug. 14 meeting by members of the Montrose Education Association, who have been working without a contract for two years.
At the special board meeting held last week, school directors also approved a one-year extension Act 93 administration contracts.
Changes made in the Act 93 agreement included separating the transportation and facilities position into two separate positions, and the addition of the Director of Curriculum.
The former Administration Compensation Plan lapsed on June 30; the contract extension will run until June 30, 2018.
As part of the contract, administrators will receive a three percent salary increase, based upon their performance evaluation.
Following notice at the Aug. 14 meeting, along with signed resignation letters submitted by members of MEA from their extracurricular positions effective on the first day of school, the district has listed those positions on the district website.
Some of the positions, available for applicants from the community, are paid on an hourly basis, ranging from $22 to $35 per hour; while other paid positions come with an annual stipend of $500 to $2,100 per school year.
There are also volunteer positions available.
The next regular meeting of the school board will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, 7 p.m., at the Choconut Valley Elementary School.

Wyoming Area’s PSSA scores did not improve under Mrs. Rosenkrans. In fact, wait until the 2017 scores are published. Three new math series were purchased in the two years she was director. And if you are a buddy of hers, you can teach whatever you wish, regardless of what the curriculum says.
