NM Boro, NMMA adds health benefits for employees

BY STACI WILSON

New Milford Borough and the New Milford Municipal Authority are joining together to offer a health insurance plan to its employees.

Borough Council President Rick Ainey said the move to offer insurance coverage came as an incentive to retain employees.

The borough and NMMA will cover 90 percent of the base insurance cost for non-seasonal employees working 20 hours a week or more. Other employees could also take advantage of the plan at their own expense. Dental and vision insurance will be made available at an additional cost to be paid by employees.

The borough’s insurance representative will be asked to meet with employees to explain the plan offerings.

The insurance offering was approved by borough council at the Thursday, March 1 meeting.

In other business, several local scouts have expressed interest in taking on projects in the borough parks in efforts to achieve top ranks and awards. One Girl Scout, working toward a Gold Award, has identified a project in Midtown Park that would help transform the tennis court into a half-court basketball court, as well as expand the play area to include a children’s handicap accessible area, as well as other potential equipment improvements. Two Boy Scouts are looking to work on projects to enhance the Blue Ridge Park, with one looking to add new picnic tables in the pool area, and the other wanting to work on the pavilion.

With a recommendation from the Recreation Board, 10 recycling receptacles were to be ordered after last week’s meeting for the parks.
