Deakin gathers 4 wins in track events

Despite cool temperatures Track & Field teams were able to compete in some of their first events of the spring.

Boys

Susquehanna defeated Mountain View 78-68 behind Mason Deakin’s four-win night. The Saber junior collected individual wins in the 100-meter, long and triple jumps, and was part of the winning 400-meter relay team.

Deakin combined with Tristan Megivern, Will Dixon, and William Perry to win the relay in 49.1. CJ Stone picked up a pair of wins in throwing events for the Sabers. Stone threw his javelin 121-7 to claim victory and tossed his discuss 97 feet 10 inches to earn first place in that event.

Also picking up individual victories for Susquehanna were Alex McHugh in the 1600 meter, David Armitage in Shot Put with 38 foot 6 inch throw, and Jakub Tomczyk in the High Jump clearing the bar at 5 feet. McHugh teamed with Austin Gow, Chayce Quaranta, and Val White to win the 3200-meter relay.

Mountain View was paced by Matt Dougherty who claimed wins in the 110 and 300 Hurdles and David Shea who won the 400-meter and the pole vault going over the bar at 9 feet 8 inches. Joe Jackson won the 200-meter and teamed with Dougherty, Shea, and Cody Durso to win the 1600-meter relay.

Blue Ridge fell to Lackawanna Trail 100-32. Ryan Mills led the Raiders claiming wins in the Long and Triple Jumps. Mills cleared the Long Jump in 17 feet 9 inches and earned the win in the Triple with a distance of 38 feet 2 inches.

Mills then teamed with Brandon Findley, Brandon Gentile, and Eli McArthur to win the 400-meter relay. Findley and Gentile teamed with Jack Condon and Mason Conklin to win the 1600-meter relay for the Raiders.

Girls

Behind the legs of McKenzie Rhone, Lizzy Delaney, and Skyla Wilson, Susquehanna edged out Mountain View 102-75 in girls track action.

Rhone claimed individual victories in the 100 and 300 hurdles, while Wilson won the 100 and 400-meter sprints. Delaney claimed the 1600 and 800-meter events. The trio was also part of several winning relay teams as well.

Rhone and Wilson combined with Taylor Huyck and Swartz to win the 400-meter relay, while Rhone, Wilson, Huyck and Lauren Hegedus won the 1600-meter relay. Delaney combined with Amanda Iveson, Day, and Baker to win the 3200-meter relay.

Iveson also claimed victory in the 3200-meter and Huyck won the 200-meter. Paige O’Hara won the High Jump with a jump of four feet and Kendra Colwell cleared the Pole Vault bar at 7 feet. In the throwing events Kaylin Trynoski won the discus with a throw of 79 feet 11 inches, and Bethany Burns won the shot put with a throw of 25-3.

Mountain View got individual wins from Kelsey Murphy (Triple Jump), Samantha Jones (Long Jump), and Meredith Zworka (Javelin).

Blue Ridge fell to Lackawanna Trail 99-32 despite the efforts of Karris Fazzi. The junior claimed victories in the 100 Hurdles and the 400-meter sprint. The Lady Raiders also had two victories in the throwing events as Anna Bonner won the shot put with a toss of 28 feet 10 inches and Emma Mangel threw her Discus 70-11 to capture victory in that event.
