Mountain View picked up a pair of wins to go over the .500-mark on the season in Lackawanna League Volleyball.
The Eagles went to Western Wayne and defeated Wildcats in three sets 25-19, 25-22, and 25-18. Luke Schmidt had 20 assists and Steve Mordent and Preston Petts contributed eight and five kills respectively.
Two nights later Mountain View hosted Elk Lake and won 3-0 taking the sets 25-11, 25-21, and 25-10. Schmidt again had 20 assists while Jake Andzulis chipped in with eight aces, and Brian Kozlowski had four aces and four kills. Zach Werle paced Elk Lake with eight blocks.
Earlier in the week Elk Lake fell to Forest City 3-0 as the Foresters took the sets by scores of 25-11, 25-19, and 25-21.
Blue Ridge avenged a first-half loss to Susquehanna by sweeping the Sabers 3-0 behind the efforts of Cameron Franks and Mitchell Clinton. Franks had 11 kills and eight digs and Clinton had 14 service points for the Raiders, as they won in straight sets 25-14, 25-17, and 25-14. Garrett Mansfield added seven kills and six digs and Charlie Randall added 16 assists to go along with six kills and digs.
Bryce Balwin had seven blocks for Susquehanna and Jarrett Dininny added six kills.
Montrose dropped a pair of matches in league play as the Meteors fell to Wallenpaupack and Scranton 5-0.
Against Paupack in Singles play Billy Hotaling lost to John Squatrito 6-2, 6-1. Steven Vetri won his second set 6-2 but lost the first and third 6-2 and 6-4 to Charlie Washburn. Jackson Griffiths also won his middle set 6-1, but fell to Matt Katz 6-3 and 6-4 in the other two.
Seth Bulkey and Tyler Andre fell 6-4, 1-6, and 6-3 to the Buckhorns’ Caleb Richman and Peter McDonough in Double action. Tracy Kerr and Jack Baker lost 6-0 and 6-1.
In Monday’s match with Scranton Hotaling fell to Nik Bhutani 6-3 and 6-2. Vetri dropped a pair of sets to the Knights’ Mit Patel 6-4, 6-2, and Griffiths was defeated by Pujan Patel 6-1, 6-3.
The double teams of Bulkey and Andre lost 6-2, 6-1 to Jack Joyce and Jarrod Palmer, while Kerr and Baker fell to 6-2, 6-2 to Jaymin and Harsh Patel
