Keystone Community Resources celebrated its Montrose program with an open house and ribbon cutting on Friday, April 27, with elected and economic development officials joining participants and KCR staff at the ceremony.

Keystone Community Resources offers day option programs, services and job opportunities to adults with developmental disabilities and autism.

The agency opened its doors to clients in January, less than two months after receiving word a previous provider pulled out of the area.

“In November 2017, we were made aware a provider was leaving abruptly,” said KCR’s Kristie Baker. “We wanted to ensure individuals did not have a large gap in services.”

Keystone Community Resources is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at 17079 SR 706 east, Montrose. Participants can come on a full- or part-time basis. In addition to work opportunities, people in the program can also choose to volunteer at various locations.

Keystone Community Resources also has an Artworks department in every program location. At the Montrose site, a large mural was inspired by Salt Springs Park.

A Keystone Confections coffee shop is also on site, and will offer coffee and fresh baked goods from the Tunkhannock-based bakery.

Currently, there are about 30 people participating in the program. “We’re very happy to be there, and so well received,” Baker said. “For us, it’s just exiting and fun so it doesn’t feel like work.”
