County to build new maintenance building

The county plans to construct a nearly $1 million maintenance building on Ellsworth Drive in Bridgewater Twp., near the county jail and recycling center.

The commissioners awarded the bid for the Susquehanna County Maintenance Building to William H. Lane, Binghamton, N.Y., at the bid price of $990,000.

The new structure will be used to house county vehicles that are currently parked in the Old Jail on the corner of Lake Avenue and Prospect Street in Montrose.

Bids for the project were opened at the May 9 meeting and sent to the solicitor and engineer for review prior to being awarded.

At the May 23 meeting, the commissioners approved several staff changes at the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility.

Tax Claim Bureau exoneration requests were also approved for a parcel in Bridgewater Twp. where a trailer had been removed from the property; and a Lenox Twp. parcel where the trailer had been razed.

The Susquehanna County Housing Redevelopment Authority was given county approval to fire a request for revision of the 2014 Pennsylvania Community Development Block Grant entitlement programs.

Bobbie Jo Turner reported that a sidewalk project from the 2014 grant came in under budget and a request is being made to transfer those funds to a storm drainage project on Peck Hill Street in New Milford Borough.

A change order for work by Johnson Controls was approved by the commissioners for the installation of a dry cooler, part of the air conditioning system, at the County Office Building at a cost of $159,875.

Commissioner Alan Hall said the unit has a five-year payback and is more efficient.

The county entered an agreement with Emergency Services Marketing Corp, for a five-year subscription for the IamResponding program, July 1 – June 20, 2023, at a cost of $66,000 which will be paid through a grant.

The program is supposed to provide better communication for responders back to the communication system.

The next county commissioners meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 12, at 9 a.m. Hall said he would be attending a seminar June 13-15.
