Blue Ridge grads embark on ‘next chapter’

BY STACI WILSON

High school science teacher Edward Price compared the similarities to the situation that he and the Blue Ridge graduates face in his remarks to the Class of 2018 at the graduation ceremony held Saturday, June 9.

After 16 years of teaching at Blue Ridge, Price retired at the end of the school year. The graduates, he said, will also be experiencing changes in their lives.

“Don’t be afraid of the next chapter of your life, because it’s going to be great,” Price said as he faced the graduates on the stage.

School Board President Chrisopher Lewis said Price, along with another retiring science teacher Nancy Burkett, were going to be missed by the district.

Principal Peter Supko quoted Disney’s Frozen – with an advised the graduates to “Let it Go.”

The end of high school, he said, is also a beginning.

During the ceremony, outgoing Senior Class President Luke Updyke passed the senior mantle to Megan Summer, Class of 2019 president.

Salutarian Miranda Brulla and Valedictorian Abigail Hartman also delivered remarks during the ceremony.
