Nearly 225 runners took to the streets of Montrose on the morning of July 4 to compete in the annual Independence Day road races that serve as a kick off to the day’s festivities in downtown Montrose.
The top five male and female finishers in both the 5k and 10k races are as follows:

The youngest runner crossing the finish line in the 5k event was six-year-old Elizabeth Diblasi. The youngest male runner was Jesse Bixby at age 7.
In the 10k race, seven-year-old David Gundling was the youngest male runner; and 17-year-old Georgia Smith was the youngest female.
But the races also drew some older runners, with Jim Gehris, at age 79, crossing the 5k finish line with a time of 39:50, and carrying an American flag with him as he reached the end.
