Reeves collects opening week wins

The Montrose girl’s tennis team kicked off the Lackawanna League play with two tough losses, but senior McKenzie Reeves picked up two wins to begin her final season campaign.

Montrose hosted Mid Valley in the season opener and Reeves found herself down after dropping the first set 6-1 to Karah Laboranti. She regrouped to win the next two sets 7-5 and 6-1 to capture the first of two wins for Montrose.

Senior Angie Ford defeated Courtney Davies 6-2 and 6-3 to put Montrose ahead before the Lady Spartans rallied with Morgan Haefle’s 6-2, 6-2 over Lady Meteor Mia Perry in the number 3 singles event.

Montrose dropped the two doubles matches as Annabelle Adams and May Adams fell to Becca Laboranti and Morgan Bialy 6-0, 6-0. The Lady Meteors forfeited the other doubles match allowing Mid Valley to prevail 3-2.

On Thursday, Montrose traveled to Valley View where the Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Meteors 4-1.

Reeves defeated Vanessa Antenori 6-3 and 6-2 to earn her second singles victory of the week. Ford won her first set over Valley View’s Faith Kendricks 6-2 before dropping the next two sets 6-4 and 6-3. Perry lost her match to Gianna Snell 6-2, 6-1.

Valley View swept the doubles action as Montrose forfeited one match and the Lady Meteors duo of Annabelle Adams and Olivia Aukema fell to Kara Hirjack and Arianna Nardelli 6-0 in both sets.
