‘3rd Friday in Montrose’ returns

BY STACI WILSON

Come enjoy a night out in beautiful downtown Montrose with 3rd Friday events planned in both September and October. The events feature food trucks, live entertainment, vendors, artists and artisans, activities for the kids. Local retailers are open late during the events for your shopping convenience; or you can meet up with friends for a craft beer, or for dinner at a downtown restaurant.

3rd Friday in Montrose was started by the Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce and the shop owners in the downtown area in order to give customers an opportunity to shop later once a month, says Tom Follert, Chamber member and one of the monthly event organizers. “It brings awareness of the shops to people who may not be able to visit them during normal business hours,” he said. 3rd Friday events were held in July and August of this year.

“We also wanted to create a fun and lively culture in our downtown district. We really want people to come out and have fun while supporting our local businesses.”

The next 3rd Friday in Montrose is set for Friday, Sept. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m., and features a Bike Night and 50/50 raffle. Bike night parking will be in the Lee’s Parking Lot, off Church Street.

Halloween is the theme of the October 3rd Friday in Montrose on the 19th of the month and features a Trunk or Treat.

“We hope that by bringing people out once a month to see what’s here, you will come back more often,” Follert said. “Bring your guests to discover our wonderful local shops, or meet up with friends at one of our restaurants. But most importantly, make people pause before they go online for something and really think about how they may play a part in reviving our downtown!”
