Zoning changes planned in New Milford

After postponing a February meeting on proposed zoning changes due to weather, New Milford Borough Council plans to hold the informational meeting on Tuesday, March 19.

The proposed updated zoning plan includes the creation of a new zone, RD, where farm animals are permitted.

The updated plan also provides more details on a number of the zoning provisions.

Council also plans to unveil the sidewalk project maps at a meeting slated for April 9.

At the Thursday, March 7 meeting, council members discussed the proposed project that would see sidewalk improvements from the Dollar General on the north end of Main St., to the Jackson Street (Rt. 494) intersection on the south end.

Council members discussed an area along that route where the map shows a sidewalk in a place used as the parking area of one local business; and other possible areas of concern. “That’s why people need to come in and look at the maps,” offered Councilwoman Teri Gulick.

Council approved the purchase of hardware to be used as the borough moves to have veteran memorial banners displayed in the town. The memorial banners would be displayed from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and cost is about $84. Veterans who resided in the borough or New Milford Twp. will be eligible.

One audience member in attendance said he is looking to locate a retail, destination business in the borough, but due to a non-disclosure agreement, he could not offer more information about it at that time.

Council President Richard Ainey said the borough is “pro-growth” and asked the man to let the borough know if he had any issues.
