Big 5th propels FC girls to win

Some local softball teams headed a little south to take the diamond to get seasons under way.

Forest City exploded for 11 runs in the top of the fifth to defeat MMI Prep 16-2.

Emily Kernoschak had three hits including a double, and drove in three runs to pace the Lady Foresters.

Maddie Bailer also doubled among her three hits and drove in two runs. Tomiann Holiday was also a three-time hitter and Bella Pleska homered for Forest City.

Montrose fell to Riverside 12-2 as the Lady Vikes exploded for seven runs in the first inning.

Mia Amorino opened the scoring for Montrose with a two-run homerun in the top of the first.

The Riverside pitcher surrendered just one more hit the remainder of the game. Aside from Amorino, Macey Schillinger had the two other hits for Montrose.

Northwest opened with five runs in the first inning and that’s all they would need to prevail over Forest City 5-4.

Kary Gillette homered and Bella Pleska doubled for the Lady Foresters. Losing pitcher Emily Gorton had two hits.

On the hill Gorton surrendered the five runs on five hits. Gillette pitched the final six innings surrendering just one hit while striking out eight.

Mountain View broke open their game with eight runs in the middle innings to prevail over Carbondale 9-1.

Regan Cameron and Emory Bewley each had three hits and four RBIs to lead the Lady Eagles. Marisa Ostir added two hits and scored twice.

Cameron was spectacular on the mound surrendering the lone run on three hits while striking out 11.
