Warnero appointed principal at ELHS

JOHN WARNERO

The Elk Lake School Board has appointed John Warnero as the Elk Lake Jr.-Sr. High School principal, replacing Brian Mallery, who in March left his post as principal after 28 years.

Warnero served as Mallery’s assistant principal, and has taught at Elk Lake for the past 18 years as well as serving as an athletics coach.

“He is a respected educator, and has a history of positive relationships with students, faculty and staff.  That being said, he is deeply invested in the success of the District and will be here for a long time,” Elk Lake Superintendent Kenneth F. Cuomo said of Warnero.

Mallery’s sudden departure before the end of the school year prompted a series of public expressions of thanks for his years of service to the district.

Warnero praised Mallery’s guidance and leadership at the school board’s March 21 meeting, describing Mallery’s impact on him as “phenomenal.”

“I am honored and humbled to be a part of such a wonderful district and community,” Warnero said after hearing of his selection as school principal.

Warnero’s wife, Karlyn, is a special education teacher at Elk Lake Elementary.  The couple has two children that attend the school.
