Sabers, Eagles’ Boys XC open with wins

Boys Cross Country action got underway with a full slate of races under superb conditions as Lackawanna League opened on Wednesday, September 4.

Susquehanna and Mountain View opened with wins in an event hosted by Riverside at McDade Park in Scranton.

Susquehanna picked up three wins as Austin Gow finished the 3.1-mile course in 19:33 to take second place and lead the Sabers in victories over Dunmore (20-41), Riverside (26-32), and Old Forge (23-33).

Val White finished in 12th place to also land in the top 15.

Mountain View. buoyed by Adien Long’s 11th place finish, earned a win over Dunmore 23-35. The Eagles also dropped a pair falling narrowly to Old Forge 26-29 and Riverside 27-29.

In the league opener for Blue Ridge, Elk Lake and Montrose held at Wallenpaupack’s 3.1-mile course each local school dropped a match to Delaware Valley and Wallenpaupack.

Nicholas Coy and Sam Stashko paced Montrose finishing fourth and sixth respectively for the Meteors. Gabriel Warner also placed 13th as Montrose fell to Delaware Valley 24-31 and Wallenpaupack 26-30.

Elk Lake’s Justice Johnson and Noah Staff finished in the 9th and 10th places as Johnson crossed the line one second ahead of Staff with a time of 19:34. The Warriors fell 21-34 to Wallenpaupack and Delaware Valley 19-37.

Montrose’s Nathaniel Sinkovich won the Junior High race in a time of 9:41 on the 1.56-mile course.
