BR, FC win a pair

Blue Ridge and Forest City each won twice and kept Division II leader Gregory the Great within their sights as the Lackawanna League Boys’ soccer season headed into the final week.

Goals were hard to come by last Tuesday. Corey Daniels scored in the final minute of the first half but he and his teammates couldn’t score again in the next 60 minutes as the Foresters fell to Holy Cross 2-1 in double overtime.

The Foresters enjoyed a 15-10 shot advantage and Goalkeeper Carmine Gigliotti had eight saves for Forest City

Dunmore scored the game’s only goal with 10 minutes remaining in the first half as the Bucks shutout Mountain View 1-0.

The Eagles outshot Dunmore 12-10. Goalkeeper Connor Richmond had nine saves for Mountain View.

Elk Lake was also shutout falling to Division II leader Gregory the Great 5-0.

The Highlanders outshot the Warriors 26-5 as they broke open the game with five goals after halftime.

Caden Ramey had 17 saves for the Warriors.

Despite 13 shots on the goal Montrose fell to Riverside 7-0. After holding Riverside to two goals in the first half, the Vikings broke open the game in the second half.

Jesse Rogers had 11 saves on the 20 Riverside shots.

Zach Polovitch scored led Mountain View to a 2-1 win over Holy Cross with the only goal of the second half.

Polovitch scored in the opening minute of the game to give the Eagels the early advantage. Holy Cross tied the game just past the midpoint of the first half.

Holy Croos edged Mountain View in shot attempts 11-10 as Richmond garnered 10 saves for the Eagles.

Blue Ridge shutout Western Wayne in the second half as the Raiders prevailed 3-1 at home.

Cameron Franks put Blue Ridge on the board first with a goal off a Garrett Conklin assist 19 minutes into the game. Western Wayne tied the game a minute later.

Ben Bleck put the Raiders ahead with an unassisted goal 15 minutes after intermission and David Wolfe added an insurance goal with two minutes remaining for the final score.

Blue Ridge held a 29-9 shot advantage and Goalkeeper Jacob Morris had two saves.

Two nights later Blue Ridge edged Dunmore 3-2 in overtime when Bleck found Coleman McCain open and McCain scored three minutes into overtime.

Trailing 1-0 at the half Bleck scored twice in a four-minute stretch to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead. Dunmore converted a penalty kick at the 61-minute mark to knot the game at two.

Dunmore outshot Blue Ridge 21-20 and Morris had seven saves for the Raiders.

Forest City bounced back from their earlier defeat to record back to back shutouts.

Friday Forest City defeated Montrose 6-0 as six different Foresters scored.

 Brady Hentschel scored off a Nick Andrews assist six minutes into the game and Jacob Gray scored a minute later off one of Jay Lipko’s three assists. Andrews scored when Daniels found him open at the 12-minute mark.

Daniels opened the second half scoring with a goal from a Lipko assist. Justin Pecko placed Tannter Britton’s pass in the back of the net and Lipko found Ben Weaver for the final score with ten minutes remaining.

Gigliooti had eight saves for the Foresters while Rogers had 14 saves for Montrose.

Lipko had four goals as Forest City steamrolled West Scranton 7-0.

Lipko scored twice in the first six minutes of the game taking assists from Matthew Carey and Hentschel. Daniels scored off a Lipko assist just before halftime.

After intermission Lipko scored twice off of assists from Carey and Daniels. Gabe Zukowski tacked on two more goals off of assists from Lipko and Carey.

Gigliotti earned saves on all four of West Scranton’s shots.
