Teams complete season, Lipko sets FC mark

Area boys’ soccer teams completed Lackawanna League play

and prepared for District II playoffs and while one player made school history.

Jay Lipko had two goals, including the one that made him the school’s all-time goal scorer, and an assist as Forest City shutout Mid Valley 4-0.

Lipko reached the milestone when he buried a penalty kick midway through the first half to give the Foresters a 1-0 lead. He tacked on another with just under four minutes to go in the half.

Corey Daniels added another goal just past the midway point of the second half and Gabe Zukowski scored off a Lipko assist with nine minutes remaining.

Forest City outshot Mid Valley 32-8 and Goalkeeper Carm Gigliotti had five saves.

Mike DeWolfe scored twice as Mountain View shutout West Scranton 3-0.

DeWolfe scored on a penalty kick 25 minutes into the game and Rigo Viveros scored eight minutes later off an assist from Nathan Ofalt.

DeWolfe scored again late in the second half off a pass from Dominic MacDonald.

Goalkeeper Connor Richmond had 12 saves off the 19 West Scranton shots.

Elk Lake was shutout by Western Wayne 4-0.

The Wildcats outshot the Warriors 32-8 as Elk Lake Goalkeeper Caden Ramey recorded 17 saves.

Lakeland’s Owen Morgan scored the game’s only goal as the Chiefs edged Elk Lake 1-0.

Ramey had 11 saves for Elk Lake.

The Warriors capped their busy week hosting Old Forge.

Old Forge’s Tyler Pepsin scored a minute and a half into the game and added a penalty kick 30 minutes later to give the visitors an early lead.

Elk Lake responded a minute after the penalty kick when Noah Johnson took a feed from Riley Teel to cut the lead in half.

Pepsin completed his hat trick with another goal with just over three minutes remaining in the half and neither team managed to score in the second half for the 3-1 final.

Elk Lake out shot Old Forge 16-11 with Ramey earning three saves in the goal.

Holy Cross scored in the first minute of the game and raced to a 6-1 win over Montrose.

Jason Smith scored 15 minutes in for the Meteors’ lone goal.

Jesse Rogers had 10 saves for Montrose.

Holy Cross broke open a tied game in the second half as the Crusaders upended Blue Ridge 4-1.

Ben Bleck put the Raiders on the board first with an unassisted goal at the eight-minute mark. Holy Cross tied the game at the 25-minute mark.

Goalkeeper Jacob Morris had six saves for Blue Ridge.
