Meteors pin Trojans to stay sharp DV bests EL in battle of Warriors

With gaps in the schedule before District II championships local wrestling and swimming programs attempt to stay sharp between the gaps.

Montrose used two pins and took advantage of forfeits in several weight classes to down North Pocono 48-29.

With league matches completed and District II championships a couple weeks away both programs looked to stay sharp during an idle stretch.

After four straight forfeit wins for the Meteors, Brendan Kanna took less than a minute to earn Montrose’s first win of a wrestled match.

At 152 pounds Kanna put North Pocono’s Dimitri Campos on his back 57 seconds into their bout.

Two matches later Jacob Craige pinned Sam Smith early in the second period of their 160-pound bout. Craige slipped under Smith and put him on the mat at the 2:32 mark.

Later at 182 pounds Devon Ford pinned the Trojans’ Aidan Hastings at the 3:11 mark for the final Meteors victory.

Nick Harder (106), James Bixby (120), Brandon Soules (126), Dylan Geertgens (132), and Andrew Rosevear (138) earned forfeit victories for Montrose.

SWIMMING

It was a tough day in the pool for Elk Lake in a battle of Warrior programs as Delaware Valley upended Elk Lake 131-33 in girls’ action and Delaware Valley boys sunk Elk Lake 136-44.

On the girls’ side Delaware Valley swept every race and won the diving competition. Elk Lake did get second place finishes from Reese Warriner and Breanna Decker.

Warriner took second in both the 50-yard and 200-yard Freestyle while Decker was second in the 100-yard Free.

In boys action Kevin Noldy led the way for Elk Lake capturing the 50-yard freestyle and finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke.

Quinn Grovesnor finished second in the 100-yard flystroke while Zach Grovesnor placed second in the 100-yard Freestyle for the Warriors.
