BRBC, Susquehanna claim EMBA titles

The Blue Ridge Basketball Club capped their undefeated season in the Endless Mountains Basketball Association Junior Girls Division by winning the Lady Warrior Classic with a 22-12 win over Tunkhannock. youth basketball players saw their season come to a close with championships.

The 21 Hoops Endless Mountains Basketball Association (EMBA) held its championships for the boys and girls Junior Divisions February 8-9.

Elk Lake hosted the girls’ division championships which was captured by regular season champion Blue Ridge Basketball Club (BRBC) which defeated Tunkhannock 22-12.

BRBC took the early lead as Abigail Gelinger scored four points in the opening quarter and BRBC led 6-2.They extended the lead in the second quarter as Gelinger scored all six points to give BRBC the 12-8 halftime lead.

After halftime Tunkhannock continued to struggle offensively while Gelinger continued to roll adding six more points to take a 16-10 lead into the fourth quarter.

Lynndee Barbour took on the load for BRBC scoring all six points while the stingy defense allowed a lone field goal and Tunkhannock could not take advantage of six trips to the foul line.

Gelinger led Blue Ridge with 14 points while Barbour finished with eight. Aliyah Faux paced Tunkhannock with four points.

Montrose defeated Susquehanna 27-15 in the consolation final to capture third place.

In Tunkhannock Susquehanna used a quick start and withstood an Elk Lake rally to capture the Beast of the Northeast EMBA Junior Boys tournament.

Griffin Fisk scored three points in the opening quarter as the Junior Sabers built a 7-2 lead. Fisk added six more points in the second quarter as Susquehanna went into halftime with a 15-9 lead.

Susquehanna extended their lead after halftime as both offenses opened up with the Sabers outscoring Elk Lake 14-13 behind six points from Joel Decker and another five from Fisk. Elk Lake stayed within reach as Parker Upright scored eight points.

Leading 29-22 heading into the fourth Susquehanna pushed the lead to double digits before Upright led a late charge with a pair of three pointers but Susquehanna held on to prevail.

Fisk led Susquehanna with 24 points while Decker chipped in with 12 and Mason Keyes added four. Upright finished with 24 to pace Elk Lake while Hunter Burry added six and Chase Pond chipped in with four.

In the consolation final Blue Ridge defeated host Tunkhannock II 29-20 to capture the third place trophy.
