Montrose woman killed in crash

A Montrose woman was killed Saturday, March 7, in a crash on Route 29, Springville Twp., when her vehicle was struck by an out of control, commercial vehicle. The crash happened at about 9:20 a.m. and occurred north of the intersection with Wood Rd.

Michelle Hawley, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Susquehanna County Coroner.

A passenger in her vehicle, and the driver of the International Harvester were both transported to Geisinger CMC in Scranton for treatment of serious injuries.

According to the police press report, Edward Kraft, 67, of Hop Bottom, was traveling north on Route 29 and lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a right curve. The truck crossed into the southbound lane where it struck Hawley’s SUV.

Following the impact, the Harvester overturned and Kraft was ejected from the vehicle.

Another fatal crash occurred in the county on Feb. 29 on Rt. 547, Jackson Twp. Manachem Krafchik, 23, Brooklyn, NY, was killed after he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. He was ejected from the vehicle, which overturned. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to Giesinger CMC for treatment of possible injuries. Tpr. Policichio investigated.
