Temporary changes in place for Aging programs

The B/S/S/T Area Agency on Aging is continuing to provide services and meals to area residents, but with some changes temporarily in place in order to comply with COVID-19 guidelines.

Technology is being used to avoid direct contact with the public whenever possible, per CDC guidelines, according to a statement issued by Executive Director Marlea Hoyt in March.

According to Pamela DeRose, Susquehanna Active Living Center director, Meals on Wheels consumers are receiving pre-packaged frozen meals only, in an effort to minimize exposure.

DeRose offered that any senior citizen who is experiencing difficulty in procuring food or preparing it, may contact the main Montrose office 570-278-3751 or 1-800-634-3746, where they can make a referral for themselves or someone else, so that sufficient assistance can be determined – whether it is through the Meals on Wheels program or other means in the community.

DeRose said, “We are doing our absolute utmost to maintain food security for the community, while respecting the health and safety off our consumers, volunteers and staff.”
