Recycling Center sets temporary hours for public drop-off

Recycling Center plans to be open in the upcoming week to accept materials with temporary hours set, beginning June 9. Public drop off will not be open, according to Susquehanna County Chief Clerk Rebekah Hubbard.

The center, located at 133 Ellsworth Drive in Bridgewater Twp., will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with no appointment necessary, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Recycling Center will not be accepting trailer loads of materials or scrap metal.

Commercial businesses can also bring in loads of recycling materials and are encouraged to do so on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays instead of the public hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Those taking recycling items to the center must wear face masks on the site. Proof of county residency is required and those bringing in materials will be directed to an area where staff members will unload it for them.

At the May 27 county commissioners’ meeting, June 1-5 was proclaimed Child Welfare Professionals Week in Susquehanna County.

A purchase of service contract was approved for Children and Youth Services with the Institute of Human Resources and Services Inc., and a purchase of service agreement was also approved with the Children’s Service Center of Wyoming Valley.

The county also entered a one-year contract with Avanco Inc. for software upgrades and maintenance for the department of Children and Youth Services at a cost of $1,888.18.

The commissioners also entered an agreement to participate in the Medical Transportation Assistance Program (MTAP), effective July 1 through June 30, 2021.

The following people were appointed to serve on the Agricultural Preservation Board, effective May 27:

Guy Parrish, Bridgewater Twp., farmer member, effective through May 27, 2023;

Jenny Clifford, Bridgewater Twp., farmer member, effective through May 27, 2023;

John Tewksbury, Auburn Twp., farmer member, effective through May 27, 2023;

The bid for the construction on county bridge #19 was awarded to Minichi Inc. of Dupont.
