Saluting the Class of 2022: Susquehanna Community

Susquehanna Community School District held its Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 11. A total of 54 students received diplomas.

Salutatorian Joseph Staria gave a speech to his class about motivation and determination to have a successful future.

Valedictorian, Meghan Kiernan, addressed her class on special moments that they shared together as a class, and the many opportunities that were given to them throughout their years at Susquehanna Community.

High School Principal Brent Soden presented students who have achieved the highest GPA in certain subject areas, with awards. Additionally, he presented students with pins who earned Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude.

The 2022 commencement speaker was Joni Deakin, 1985 graduate of Susquehanna Community who worked in the district for over 33 years and has just retired this year. Deakin spent 27 years teaching and being part of the administrative team at Susquehanna, advocating for students with disabilities.

Deakin spoke to the graduates about being true to themselves, gaining confidence, and even shared some personal experiences with her own children.

Many of these graduates will be furthering their education and training in some capacity, while others have already secured jobs in the workforce.

On Friday evening, June 3, Susquehanna Community High School held its annual Class Night Awards Ceremony. This entire program was run by the students of the senior class. A variety of students spoke about their classmates, presented them with awards, and showcased their future plans. Julia Schell performed a musical selection.

A variety of people from the community were present to give awards and gifts out to many members of the graduating class. This year, the total amount of awards that were given out to students totaled over $286,524.

Susquehanna Community School District is very fortunate to have overwhelming support, funding, and generosity from this small community. This night would not have been possible without this small town and surrounding community.
