Choral performers advance to states

BY PAT FARNELLI

Two weeks ago, a winter storm forced organizers to cancel the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s Regional Chorus concert, planned for Friday, Feb. 14. The regional festival was held at Tunkhannock Area High School, and students arrived, auditioned for the All-State Festival, and checked into their hotel rooms only to be sent home shortly thereafter.

Students who had advanced from district chorus to the regional event participated in auditions for the state competition on Wednesday and were scheduled to rehearse all day Thursday and Friday for a Friday evening performance.

“We are deeply saddened that the weather was not cooperative,” said Tunkhannock music teacher Tara Kasperowski. “Auditions went extremely well and ran very smoothly, and we can only imagine how phenomenal the whole festival could have been.”

Susquehanna County students who were selected for regional chorus include:
Blue Ridge: Lexi Button, Alto 1; Allen Weed, Bass 2.
Elk Lake: Christian Sprout, Bass 1.
Forest City: Katie O’Neill, Alto 1; Sonny Albright, Bass 1; Neal Albright,Bass 2.
Montrose: Alex Creamer, Soprano 1; Johanna Marland, Soprano 2; Sean Quinn, Bass 1;
Mountain View: Hayley Maloney Soprano 1; Peter Maloney, Tenor 2.

Two Susquehanna County students advanced to the All-State Festival: Allen Weed, Blue Ridge, and Hayley Maloney, Mountain View.

The all-state festival will be held in Hershey this year from Mar. 26-29.
