The No. 8 Dunmore Bucks powered their way to a 28-7 win over Susquehanna in a Lackawanna Football Conference game at Dunmore Veterans Memorial Stadium. A pair of running backs and a strong offensive line carried Dunmore to the Friday victory.
Dunmore got on the board with a 38-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Susquehanna’s defense was up to the challenge in the first half, forcing two punts and a turnover.
The Sabers drove inside Dunmore’s 10-yard-line late in the first quarter, but were stopped on fourth-and-goal at the 3. Susquehanna recovered a fumble on the Bucks’ ensuing possession and took over at the Dunmore 45, but could not get a first down. The Sabers held Dunmore without a first down on its next possession and, after taking over on their own 39, drove to the Bucks’ 38.
But on fourth-and-6, Dunmore intercepted a pass to gain possession with 2:44 remaining in the first half.
The Bucks drove 62 yards in six plays and scored on a 1-yard run to give Dunmore a 14-0 halftime lead.
Dunmore fumbled away its first possession in the third quarter but stopped Susquehanna again on fourth down to take over at the 30. The Bucks then marched 70 yards in 17 plays over 7:52 of the third quarter and capped the drive with a 2-yard quarterback sneak to give the Bucks a 21-0 lead.
After Susquehanna punted, it was another long drive for the Bucks. This time, Dunmore went 73 yards on 12 plays including an 18-yard touchdown run to finish the drive that lasted 6:02 of the fourth quarter.
