County looking at other recycling center options

BY STACI WILSON

With no buyer interested in purchasing the Susquehanna County Recycling Center the county commissioners approved a maintenance and service agreements for equipment at the facility.

The county signed a preventative maintenance agreement for a forklift and clamp truck; approved the routine servicing of two skid steers.

Commissioner Alan Hall said there has been no movement in regards to the privatization of the facility. The county put the recycling center on the market over one year ago.

But Hall added, the county is now looking at options to improve the recycling facility and “move it out of the red.”

The commissioners also approved a revised 2014 holiday scheduled to include Dec. 26 of this year as a holiday. An additional “floating holiday” – set by the commissioners – was added in contracts this year.
The commissioners also approved the 2015 holiday schedule. County employees receive 12 holidays each year.
Hall also announced the 2015 county budget would be available for public review on Monday, Nov. 3.
He said the proposed budget is just under $30 million; and again reflects a two mill Act 13 tax credit that property owners will see on their county tax bills in 2015.

The county is also accepting bids for General Contracting Services contract. The contract would run two full years, beginning Jan. 1, 2015 and ending Dec. 31, 2016. The work covered under those services include excavation and the use heavy equipment, explained Commissioner Michael Giangrieco.

Three part-time corrections officers were hired for the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility.

The Susquehanna County Board of Elections approved the temporary polling place change for Friendsville Borough from the St. Francis Xavier Church Hall to the Neumann Center, located on SR 267 in Choconut.

The move is due to a heating fuel spill in the church. According to the board, the change complies with ADA regulations.
