The visiting Wyalusing Rams traveled to Dimock to face the undefeated Elk Lake Warriors on Monday night. The Elk Lake fans, who filled the gym to standing room only, were not disappointed.
Elk Lake defended well and held the Rams scoreless for the first six minutes of the game.
Bailey Newhart and Seth Tewksbury put up 11 points between the two of them, including the first of Newhart’s five 3-pointers. Ridge Williams and Jon Morrison each scored a basket for Wyalusing and Morrison added in two foul shots. The first quarter ended with the Warriors up 11-6.
The Warriors shots were distributed more evenly across the roster in the second quarter. Hunter Watkins scored four points, Ben Woolcock, Tewksbury and Cole Tyler each scored a basket. And Newhart added in seven points. Under the basket Tewksbury could not be stopped; he had four five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. The Rams put nine points on the scoreboard. Williams made two foul shots, Will Martin scored two and KeShon Gardner put up five points. At half time the Warriors had a 28-15 lead.
Elk Lake had a huge third quarter and added 20 points, but under the basket was where they really shined. Tewksbury grabbed six more rebounds and put in six points. That trend continued with Watkins who had two rebounds and four points. JJ Heft had four rebounds. Newhart had two 3-pointers, two baskets, two rebounds and a steal. Wyalusing scored ten points to end the quarter with a 25-48 deficit.
The Warriors continued their scoring streak in the final quarter when they added 19 more points, outscoring the Rams by nine. With 3:19 left on the clock, Coach Warnero pulled out all of the starters and let the bench have some quality minutes on the court. The underclassmen did not disappoint their fans either.
Reyan and Fiorentino both hit 3-pointers which got the crowd standing on their feet. Evan DeBonis scored four points, had two rebounds and a block. Jason Vasquez had three rebounds.
The Warriors stayed perfect on the season with a final score of Elk Lake 67, Wyalusing 35.
Newhart was the high scorer for Elk Lake with 27 points. Ridge Williams and Jon Morrison each scored nine to lead the Rams. The Warriors will travel to face Tunkhannock on Friday night.
