Montrose Legion tops Honesdale, Hamlin

The Montrose Legion Post 154 senior baseball team grabbed a pair of wins over Honesdale, 12-2 and 9-0 at home on Saturday after the team took a 3-0 victory over the Hamlin Post at home on Thursday.

On Saturday in the first game of the doubleheader against Honesdale, Dan Simonds had two doubles and two RBIs and Mike Marz tripled and drove in three runs to lead Montrose.

Jimmy Churco took the pitching win, giving up three hits, one earned run and a pair of walks while striking out seven.

In the nightcap, Churco had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs to lead the Meteors.

Mike Rapisardi and Mike Hackett combined on a one-hit shutout on the mound. Rapisardi struck out seven in six innings, and Hackett struck out one in a perfect inning on the mound.

Simonds added a pair of hits and scored twice.

On Thursday, Holden Lunger tossed a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts to lead Montrose Post.

Montrose’s Steve Squires had three hits including a double, and Marz had two hits and an RBI for Montrose.

Lunger had 11-strikeouts while Churcho added a pair of singles with a run scored. TJ Loomis hit a hit and scored a run while Matt Hohn had a hit and an RBI.
