Robbery suspect arrested

A Union Dale man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly robbing $1,750 from a bank in Susquehanna Depot two weeks ago after being spotted by an off-duty state trooper at a convenience store in Susquehanna County.

John Dockens, 28, of 727  South Main St., is charged with one count of robbery, two counts of terrorist threats, three counts of theft and four counts of receiving stolen property, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint says the off-duty state trooper saw Dockens at the Convenient Food Mart in Lenox Twp., sitting in the passenger seat of a maroon Subaru station wagon reported stolen from theAllentownarea that was also seen during the robbery. In the driver’s seat sat Crystal Tripp, 25, of113 Decker Road, Jermyn. She was charged with receiving stolen property.

According to the complaint, a man entered the Pennstar Bank in Susquehanna Depot on Aug. 19 and demanded that he be given $10,000 “in 10 seconds or I’ll shoot someone.” The bank teller handed the man – who was subsequently identified as Mr. Dockens – $1,750.

Dockens, who did not show a weapon, then fled the building, according to the criminal complaint.

During the investigation, photographs taken from the robbery were emailed to Susquehanna County Adult Probation and other law enforcement agencies in the county.

On Aug. 19,countyChiefProbation Officer Jeffrey Shoemaker called state police and said the person in the photographs had a “striking resemblance” to Dockens.

Police on Aug. 19 also saw Dockens in the Susqeuhanna Depot area driving the maroon Subaru station wagon.

Dockens and Tripp are each being held at the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.
