CARBONDALE- Sean Stanley showed off some fancy footwork Friday night.
Susquehanna’s first-year quarterback nearly stepped out of bounds on both sidelines during a 67-yard run that sparked the visiting Sabers to a 29-7 win overCarbondalein a Lackawanna Football Conference crossover game at the Andrew Cerra Complex.
“It was the coolest,” the senior said of his third-quarter run that set up the Sabers’ second score. “It was a pass play, but the coaches tell me if I see grass, just run.”
Rolling to his right, he saw receivers, but also spied a lot of open field in front of him. So he took off toward theCarbondalesidelines.
After tip-toeing for a step or two, he switched direction and headed for the Susquehanna sidelines.
He finally was brought down at the Chargers 6 as the Sabers fans gave a loud roar.
“We stressed pursuit angles, and on that play, not one of our players had the proper angle,” Chargers coach Larry Gabriel said. “It seems that over the past year-and-a-half, when it rains, it pours, and we had an avalanche of mistakes.”

Stanley ran for 139 yards and his reads on the veer were spot-on as back Greg Price added 101 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 attempts.
“Sean matured a lot tonight,” Sabers coach Dick Bagnall said. “Even with limited practice, he had a real good game.”
Stanleywas injured in a loss toLakelandlast weekend and missed most of practice during the week. Price also missed the loss, but looked sharp in the second half, when the Sabers (3-2) ran for 260 yards after being held to 58 in the first half.
“They bottled us up inside in the first half, so we went to our outside series, and that loosened them up,” Bagnall said.
After Stanley’s serpentine run, Price scored two plays later, then the Sabers recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff.

Although they did not score on that drive, the Sabers had momentum and reached the end zone on their next two drives to put the game away.
The first half was evenly played – both teams gained 87 yards withCarbondale(1-4) taking the lead on Joey Gigliotti’s 1-yard run on its first possession.
Susquehanna scored in the second quarter when 6 foot-2 receiver Austin Cowperthwait reached over a shorter Chargers defender for a 19-yard touchdown catch and took an 8-7 lead on Jesse Pruitt’s conversion run.
