ForestCitybasketball players had a lot of motivation for this year’s Coaches vs. Cancer weekend.

Players and coaches did their part to raise money during the fourth annual event and were inspired by two elementary school students.

Rhiannon Depew, 8, and Lily Depew, 4, both of Union Dale lost their mother Yvonne in December after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was only 34 years old.

Rhiannon and her third-grade class held a special dress down day Friday by wearing pink to support the school’s fundraising efforts. Also, the faculty dressed down and wore sneakers, according to superintendent John Kopicki.

ForestCityraffled off items to raise money, including an autographed basketball from Villanova coach Jay Wright, an autographed basketball fromPittsburghcoach Jamie Dixon, an official National League baseball autographed by former Atlanta Braves Cy Young winner Tom Glavine and a baseball signed by New York Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira, among other items.
