Spring tea ushers in season

Nestled between Easter and Mother’s Day, the Lady Bug Tea, held Saturday atOldMillVillageChurchinNew Milford, celebrated the arrival of spring with music, food and fellowship.

Hosted by the Order of the Eastern Star Region 11B proceeds from the event will help bolsterOldMillVillageMuseum’s church fund.

OES Deputy Matron Karen Worden said, “There are no other funds that come into this church – other than the events they do here.”

She said the idea for the event grew out of other events held in the region such as basket raffles, bake sales and auctions. But this was the first tea she had organized.

Tea offerings included finger sandwiches, raspberry soup, broccoli salad, stuffed tomatoes and a variety of desserts prepared by The Wooden Spoon’s Cindy Wooden.

Worden was pleased with the turn-out for the event. “At times, there were people waiting for a seat,” she said.

While waiting, tea-goers made their way to the church sanctuary where local musical groups performed throughout the day.

Between entertainers in the sanctuary, OMV board member Sherman Wooden spoke about the history of the church and how it became part of the museum.

OES Region 11B includes six chapters: Arbitus 29, Nicholson; Gill Chapter 12, Hallstead; Montrose Chapter 151; Prosperity Chapter 83, Hop Bottom; Tunkhannock Chapter 74, Factoryville; and Sunshine Chapter 258, Thompson.
