MA tennis nets pair of wins

The Montrose Area boys’ tennis team grabbed a pair of wins last week with a 4-1 win over Western Wayne at home on Thursday and a 4-1 win over Valley View at home on Wednesday.

Against Western Wayne, Bryan Shultz and Chris Jordan won their singles matches in straight sets to lead the Meteors.

Singles: Bryan Shultz (MON) over Jake Covey, 6-2, 6-1; Chris Jordan (MON) over Jake Silfies, 6-1, 6-2; Zach Hall (WW) over Justin Parrish, 6-3, 6-3.

Doubles: Isaac Mitchell-Sean Regan (MON) over Louie Victorio-John Kline, 6-1, 6-0; Zach Myer-Hunter Williams (MON) over Brian Escobar-Matt Poska, 6-1, 6-1.

On Wednesday, Montrose fought for a 4-1 win over Valley View on Wednesday in a Lackawanna League Division II tennis match.

Mike Roman and Bryan Shultz both came back from being down 0-4 in the deciding sets to win at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Meteors.

“There were a lot of tie-breaks and every match was close except No. 3 singles,” Montrose coach Jim Hinds said. “Every single match came down to the wire.

“It was a nail biter. It was a lot of fun.”

Travis Troiani had the only win for Valley View at No. 3 singles.

Montrose’s win knocked Valley View down to the No. 4 seed for the District 2 Class AA team tennis tournament that begins Friday.

Singles: Mike Roman (MON) over Jordan Furdock, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (4); Bryan Shultz (MON) over Tony Jadus, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2), 6-4; Travis Troiani (VV) over Chris Jordan, 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles: Isaac Mitchell-Sean Regan (MON) over John Harrison-Dalton Leonard, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5; Hunter Williams-Zach Myers (MON) over Dave Lesnefsky-Nicky Chesko, 2-6, 6-0, 7-5.
