Natural gas development dominates Planning agenda

BY STACI WILSON

The Susquehanna County Planning Commission focused a great deal of its Aug. 28 meeting on natural gas compressor station and pipeline plans.

Preliminary approval was granted to Williams for the Grassman compressor station (formerly a Laser Northeast Gathering Company site) inForestLakeTwp.

The original plan submitted by Laser to the planning commission had been revised by Williams, according to Planning Director Robert Templeton.

Two lots, one owned by James Hawley and the other by James, Nadine and Carlton Hawley, were subdivided for the Williams compressor station.

One lot, Templeton said, will be the site of the meter station and the other will be the lot where the compressor station will be located.

Properties associated with Bluestone Gathering’s operations in the county were also considered by the planning commission.

Preliminary and final approval was granted for the major, non-residential subdivision of the Williams and Matthew Chamberlain property in Jackson Twp., which will be used as a compressor station site.

Final approval was granted for a minor, non-residential subdivision of the Robert and Laura Schneider and William and Benjamin Wood property, New Milford Twp., to be used for pipeline.

And conditional preliminary and final approval was given to Jeffers Farms Inc., Harford and Lenox Twps., for a major, non-residential subdivision of 72 acres.

Templeton said Bluestone plans to relocate wetlands onto a portion of the property.

The planning commission also gave its final approval to the Susquehanna County Career andTechnologyCenter’s building addition.

The board also provided review and comment for Montrose Borough’s proposed 108-page zoning ordinance.

Templeton said a few clarifications and suggestions would be submitted for the borough’s consideration.

He said it was recommended the borough provide ample time for the public to review the proposed zoning changes before holding a public hearing and moving to adopt the ordinance.

The Susquehanna County Planning Commission meets on the final Tuesday of each month, at7:30 p.m., in the county office building,Public Ave., Montrose.
